Hello from the Market at Wine Press!
If you’re on vacation this week, I hope it’s a restful one with just the right amount of fun. Two things this week from The Market: tins and communities.
Chances are, if you’ve been to The Market recently, you’ve seen a lot of new tinned fish arrive on our shelves. I wanted to highlight some of our recent acquisitions and some ideas on how to use them at home. We’re really excited about the Wildfish Cannery Salmon tins this week. One option is smoked, and the other is preserved simply in olive oil. Both cans contain wild Alaskan salmon that were line-caught. The freshness is out of this world! If you’ve never been to Alaska, this is the closest you can get without an airline ticket.
Both go extremely well on a classic melt sandwich. Grab some Prairie Breeze Cheddar from our fridge and slice up a Pavé loaf from Clear Flour Bread (now freshly delivered on Wednesday and Saturday mornings). Grate the cheese, add a slice of tomato (and maybe some pickled Giardinara vegetables too?) and toast under a broiler on high or on a panini press. When the cheese is gooey, it’s time to eat!
Island Creek is definitely one of our favorite brands here at The Market. Hopefully you’ve had a tin of their Scallops in Vieira Sauce or the Mussels in Pickled Sauce! We’re proud to carry a new product from Island Creek: Güeyu Grilled Mussels in Marinade Sauce. Sometimes, when tinned fish is grilled, the taste of the cooking process can overwhelm the natural flavors of the fish. No so with Güeyu. These mussels are kissed with an elegant note of smoke and then preserved in a high-quality spice and herb sauce for maximum flavor. Try them out with any of our artisanal crackers - they won’t disappoint!
Finally, a word about community. The Market at Wine Press began as a response to Whole Foods leaving the St. Mary’s neighborhood in 2022. Since then, we’ve continued to witness extensive changes here, most recently the announced closure of True Value Hardware store. Cognizant of this, The Market now carries a range of batteries (AA, 9V, C, and D sizes) for purchase. We will also be bringing in paper goods soon. Our mission remains steadfast: to serve the community here in Brookline, and Boston at large, with the best products at reasonable prices. Customers are our greatest asset. We’ll be here to serve you all even as the evolution continues.
Cheers from The Market!
