A change at Wine Press

There’s no denying it, retail isn’t as rewarding for the customer as it used to be.  There are too many choices and little added value for the consumer.  That’s not how it’s supposed to be. Retail is dying - we’re hoping to change that.

Retailers are meant to be an advocate for the customer. Their job is to provide a service.

My Father explained to me this, the duty of a retailer is to survey the goods available in the market and select the best ones for the customers.  He was in textiles, but that sentiment has carried me for a long time in my retail journey.

There was a lot of work when I started out, but I had a lot of mentors, a lot of schooling, and a lot of wine.  I learned a lot and still have so much to learn, but that’s the most enjoyable part, to take all of my customers on this wine journey.  I’ll never stop looking for the best wines so there will always be something new for folks to try.

As consumer choice has increased, our ability to differentiate ourselves has become more difficult.  Wine is a product, products are obtained easily.  We miss the opportunity to connect with each of you and it’s not fair (to either of us). I got into this business to show that the world of wine can be approachable and enjoyable at any price point, that there’s no need for snobbery, just a desire to learn from each other and gain new understanding.  My team and I are ready to offer more than just products, we want to provide you with real experiences and knowledge.

Get ready for more out of the Wine Press. The team and I are refocused on giving you the best experiences and we are excited to share a few new things with you!

Wine Workshops are back!  We miss having all of you in our stores sharing a taste of wine.  Our informal weekly tastings are still on hiatus, but we’ll be doing a sit-down wine seminar once a month, or more if we can pull it off.  First up is a Piedmont Workshop on Monday, October 25th, led by Chelsie at our Fenway location. We’ll be doing this with the store closed as a “private event” and proof of vaccination will be required.  We are beyond thrilled to be talking to you again with a taste of wine in your hand!  Find all the details here.

Wine Cellar Consulting... I’ve been working hard on my own collection and decided this is something many of our customers may want a hand with.  Just as starting out learning about wine was daunting at times for me, understanding what wines to cellar and which ones to drink can also be difficult. The approach to our cellar consulting will mirror the way we’ve always helped you in the store. We will meet you wherever you are on your wine journey.   I’m here to take the stress and uncertainty out of the selection process and work with any budget.  More on this soon!

Event Planning... Well folks, you’ve all been asking and Jyoti is back!  Right in time for the holiday season.  Jyoti will be available to help coordinate wine, beer, and spirits for any events you may have at your home or office.  Gifting season is upon us as well, Jyoti can handle corporate or personal gifting needs including personalized merchandise and deliveries anywhere in Massachusetts!  Any questions can be directed to wine@theupperglass.com

We’re excited about bringing back the fun to retail - can’t wait to see you all soon!
