VIRTUAL TASTING: familiar Places, unFamiliar faces

The Tasting

This week we’re talking about grapes you know from places you don’t normally think to look for them - German Pinot Noir and Spanish Tempranillo Blanco. You’ll get body and texture from the white and subtle nuance from the red. Since everything else is upside down right now, why not turn this tasting on its head? See you on Zoom!

Stop by either shop to pick up the wines or order them here (because we have a website now, with links and everything)

We’re proud to continue our support of  The Loveland Foundation which provides resources to Black women and girls, specifically in the area of mental health. They are committed to bringing access and better opportunities to communities of color through different fellowships and residencies.

Proceeds from our events will benefit this amazing organization. Join us in supporting the Loveland Foundation. To learn more about them click here.

The Wines

Bodegas Inteus Aviadores Rioja Blanco

Region: Rioja DO - Rioja
Country: Spain
Varietals: Tempranillo Blanco, Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca
Producer: Bodega Inteus

In Brief: Oaky Chardonnay lovers looking for something new and exciting? Drink this please. Lemon, hazelnut, fresh butter. A full-bodied white with so much depth, but still so fresh. Fermentation in barrel for one month with frequent battonage (stirring with a big wooden stick) to liven up the lees, and then back in the barrel for two months of aging. This complex élévage (wine-making process) makes for an incredibly refined wine.

Koehler-Ruprecht Pinot Noir

Region: Pfalz
Country: Germany
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Producer: Koehler-Ruprecht

In Brief: If Koehler-Ruprecht’s Pinot Noir is anything, it is traditional Pfalz style. It's just ripe, it has popping acidity, and it has an alluring smoky nose that makes you feel like you are in a forest. A fleshy palate blend with light tannins giving it a rusticity without being rough. This Pinot Noir is a good option to unite both California and Burgundy Pinot Noir drinkers and will teach you that Germany has more to offer than the white wines it's more commonly known for.
